Project:
Coyote Watershed Program

Client:
Santa Clara Valley Water District

The Santa Clara Valley Water District has undertaken a flood protection and watershed management program for each of the watersheds within Santa Clara County. The District's program for flood protection in the Coyote Watershed, located in the East Flood Control Zone, includes improvements that are in excess of $120 million. RMC is managing the planning and design of the program for the District through the year 2005 to accomplish the goals of the flood protection program. The elements of the program include:

- Developing fast track projects within the first year of the program to demonstrate the significant progress toward implementation of flood protection and related improvements within the Coyote Watershed,

- Improving the natural stream functions and the environmental benefits of creeks and streams,

- Obtaining available funds from local, state, federal, and private sources,

- Developing a public outreach program to build public confidence and political support, and

- Overseeing design and construction of all watershed improvement projects.

In addition, RMC is serving as the prime interface with federal funding agencies, including the Corps of Engineers and the NRCS. RMC has worked with the Water District and the Corps to develop approaches for utilization of alternative funding sources, including Section 104 Reimbursement and Section 205 Small Projects Agreements.
